Abstract
The effect of preliminary heat treatment (quenching or normalizing) on the microstructure and mechanical properties of medium-carbon steels 24KhGBR, 37G2S and 37KhGF after a hold in the intercritical temperature range (ITR) and air cooling is studied. It is shown that the preliminary heat treatment (especially the quenching) affects positively the combination of mechanical properties obtained after heating in the ITR.
