Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explore the transformation of the Korean film industry after Hollywood distribution companies were given the goahead to release their films in Korea. The focus is on the specific period between 1988 and 1993, when the Korean film industry was in the first stage of "free competition." The article is structured around the three components of production, distribution, and exhibition.
