Abstract

In the present work, we have reported a simple approach for the functionalization of single-walled carbon nano-horns by using acids at room temperature conditions. Interaction of acid molecules with the horn was examined by Raman spectroscopy. It was observed that the up-shifting of D and G Raman bands due to intercalation of acid molecules experienced strain on the structure of horns. In addition, the crystallite size of the acids-treated horns was found to decrease to 11 nm as compared with 18 nm for pristine horns. The presence of functional groups at nano-horn after acids treatment was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectra. Furthermore, due to acids doping, the electrical current of functionalized horns was increased to 15 mA from 3 mA at 1 V sweep voltage.
