Abstract

New structural modifications of polydioxolane (PDO) and polyoxymethylene (POM) have been obtained by polymerization of dioxolane and trioxan in partially polymerized methyl methacrylate, with SnCl 4 as catalyst. It is shown by means of infrared spectra and X-radiograms that PDO can exist in three structural modifications. The new form of POM gives the following absorption bands in the infrared region: 938, a shoulder at 970, 980, 1028, 1125 and 2920 cm −1.
