Abstract

The effect of strong electric fields (e.g., 3.4 kV/m) in the 1 1 0 plane direction, in the conductivity of the V 2O 5· nH 2O xerogel (also known as VXG) and in the intercalative redox polymerization of pyrrole in the VXG matrices has been investigated. The resulting poly(pyrrole) nanocomposites exhibited electric anisotropy in the 1 0 0 and 0 1 0 crystallographic directions. Photomicrographies of such materials revealed that the polymer fibers tend to orient themselves along the applied field.
