Abstract

In 1 case of acute venous thrombosis in ths region of venous connection of a kidney transplant, we tried regional infusion of streptokinase. A total of 16 625 000 units of streptokinase (Kabikinas, Kabi, Sweden) was given over a period of 5 days. The treatment was then discontinued due to pronounced side-effects (high fever, deterioration of the general condition of the patient and a mental depression). A complete lysis of the originally large thrombus was accomplished. Conventional anti-coagulation therapy was then instituted and the patient is free of symptoms and has normal phlebograms 15 months after the onset of the symptoms. Regional streptokinase infusion proved to be a valuable alternative to surgical procedure in this case.
