Abstract

A new algorithm for abutment safety analysis-dynamic contact strength reduction method is proposed for nonlinear dynamic contact problems considering the interaction between arch dam body and the abutment. Based on the traditional Finite Element timeschedule Strength Reduction Method, the abutment sliding bodies, foundation, arch dam body and reservoir water is taken as one system, which can be more accurate. According to the characteristics of local nonlinearity for this problem, the system of forces acting on the contactor is divided into two parts: external and contact. The displacements of contactor are chosen as the basic variable and the nodal contact forces in possible contact region are chosen as the iterate variable, so that the nonlinear iteration process is only limited in the possible contact surface. In this way, the sophisticated contact nonlinearity is shown by the variety of the contact forces, thus make the iteration easy and feasible.
