Abstract

The National Minimum Standards for Care Homes for Older People (Department of Health, 2002) state that clients must have a lifestyle that matches their expectations and satisfies their social, cultural, religious and recreational interests and needs. Clients' preferences must also be assessed and recorded. Opportunities for stimulation through leisure and recreational activities both in and outside the home need to be created to suit residents' needs, preferences and capacities.
