Abstract

In this paper, the Raman differential cross-section of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) was measured relative to that of toluene and the gain coefficient was calculated. Then the stimulated Raman threshold in the polymer optical fibers (POF) was deduced, and a concise expression of pump threshold was obtained. Through simulation, we found that the threshold power is only several watts in single-mode POF with fiber several meters long, which shows the potential to develop POF Raman amplifiers.
