Abstract

Shape correlation and magnetic field control ofstimulated photon echo (SPE) are investigated as basic propertiesuseful for optical data storage and treatment. The SPEpolarization was investigated in ytterbium vapour at theintercombination transition (6s6p) 3P1→ (6s2) 1S0 for the first time in a widerange of longitudinal magnetic field strength. SPE was generatedby three resonant laser pulses of identical linear polarizationand wave vectors directed symmetrically at small angles to theaxis of cylindric vapour cell. SPE polarization is close to linearone in zero magnetic field. As magnetic field increases, the SPEpolarization acquires ellipticity with the ellipse axis rotatedaround magnetic field vector. Components of SPE polarization showoscillations versus magnetic field with higher contrast of theoscillations in the weak field.
