Abstract

The excretion of steroid monosulfates in urine from female, male and male pseudohermaphrodites of the same strain of King X-Holtzman rats was studied by gas chromatography—mass spectrometry. Female rats excreted C19O3 and C21O3 steroids of ovarian origin and C21O4 and C21O5 steroids of adrenal origin. No steroid monosulfates were found in urine from male rats. Male pseudohermaphrodites excreted C19O3 C21O4 and C21O5 steroids identical to the corresponding steroids in the female rat; however, no C21O3 steroids were found in urine from male pseudohermaphrodites. The present results show that the hepatic metabolism of steroids in male pseudohermaphrodites has a female character. (Endocrinology 90: 931, 1972)
