Abstract

Professor Piper was born in 1887 and educated in Darlington and London, graduating in 1910 from King's College, London, with first class honours in physics. The following year he became a research student at University College, Nottingham, and shortly afterwards a Lecturer there. He had a distinguished record in the First World War, serving with the Sherwood Foresters.
