  • May 30, 2024
  • Dnipro Academy of Continuing Education Herald. Series: Philosophy, Pedagogy
  • Oksana Bodnar + 1 more

This article expounds the particularity of the discipline setting of Chinese college students' aesthetic values from the perspective of the four disciplines of music history theory, music appreciation, music aesthetics and music practice offered in Chinese universities, the article also gives a detailed description of the musical instruments used by college students in the course of studying these disciplines. In Chinese colleges and universities, students form aesthetic values through Chinese musical art, mainly by studying some disciplines about Chinese music. After analyzing and reading the relevant literature, the authors find that, on the one hand, the music disciplines offered by the universities in China under the guidance of the state policy have common features, but because of the difference of the regional economic development, the local culture, the cognitive difference of the administrators, such as the president, and the difference of their own school-running conditions, the colleges and universities have different characteristics. After analysing the literature connected to the research, the authors find that, on the other hand, the types of musical instruments used by students are subject to the school's music public art curriculum resources. It is emphasised that many well-known universities and provincial key universities in China are rich in music public art teaching resources, students use more instruments, playing professionally. And in most local colleges and universities in ethnic minority areas, college students use fewer musical instruments, and more use of piano, guitar, Cucurbit Wire, harmonica, Zheng and other common fixed pitch, relatively easy to operate the instrument, the minority musical instruments which are special, rare or difficult to learn are seldom used even in universities in minority areas. The study is relevant for comparing the means of forming aesthetic values in different countries. Prospects for further research will be to analyse the methods and forms of forming students' aesthetic values in the educational process of colleges in China and other countries in a comparative aspect.

  • Sep 28, 2023
  • Educational Administration: Theory and Practice
  • Lulu Zheng + 1 more

Students play a vital role in achieving the aims of the institution and improving institution performance in this respect. The adoption of new technologies has had an effect on how college students learn. The study focuses on the pre-Qin Confucian filial piety ideology and culture on the ideological and political education mode in colleges and universities in China, as well as the planned behaviour theory involved. 420 students from various Chinese universities and colleges participated in an online and in-person survey for the analysis. The results of structural equation modelling (SEM) show that student involvement enhances academic performance. The findings of the study also revealed a link between ideological and political education, forms of education, and student performance in Chinese colleges and universities, as well as the mediating function of Confucian filial piety culture. Additional research can be carried out to keep the understanding of our model accurate. There was yet another drawback to using a quantitative, closed-ended questionnaire. The cross-sectional form of the study makes it challenging to demonstrate a cause-and-effect relationship. As a result, it's important to consider the benefits and drawbacks of the good information era, intensify the positive interventions, properly direct college students' ideological and political education, develop new approaches to this education, and make an effort to incorporate socialist principles throughout the entire process of university and college education. There are significant policy recommendations, questions for further research, and recommended theoretical and practical implications.

  • Oct 18, 2023
  • International Journal of Social Science and Research
  • Jian Li + 1 more

The new development stage of labor education in Chinese colleges and universities focuses on "transformation", and the external obstacles arising from it cannot be ignored. First, the traditional form of labor education in Chinese colleges and universities conflicts with the integration of digital disciplines and professions; second, the goal of traditional labor education in China is misaligned with the digital labor demand mosaic; third, the main body of traditional labor education in China is divergent from the main body of the digital technology class. As a result, the analysis of the basic logical reasoning of the digital transformation of labor education in Chinese colleges and universities: first of all, we should follow the Marxist view of labor, secondly, based on the basic concept of labor education, and finally, balance between physical labor and digital labor. In order to solve the obstacles to the digital transformation of labor education and comply with the basic logic, it is necessary to adopt the strategies of consensus and common research to build lifelong labor education, construct a three-dimensional form of technological innovation and labor education, and open up practice bases to promote the value of digital labor, in order to promote the digital transformation of labor education in China's colleges and universities to the depth.

Professional training of pianists in Chinese colleges: the specifics of work on a musical piece
  • Jul 30, 2021
  • Revista Tempos e Espaços em Educação
  • Chen Qiuyue

The article reveals the methodological features of professional training of pianists in music colleges in China and identifies the specifics of the work of teachers and students on a musical piece. Work on a piece of music is associated with certain difficulties and involves several stages – from reciting from paper to completion in the form of an exam or a concert performance. The final stage can be considered endless; there are no limits to perfection especially when it comes to the learning process. In Chinese music colleges, great attention is paid to students’ mastery of not only rich basic knowledge about music but also solid musical performance skills in accordance with the practice-oriented approach. Work on a musical piece is necessarily divided into several stages at each of which the process of musical training is focused on the repetition of technical exercises and rote memorization. From the point of Western pedagogs, such an approach to training is considered unproductive. However, it corresponds to such national character traits of Chinese people as diligence, hard work, and perseverance. The article explores the effective methods of training ensuring high results in the professional training of pianists in Chinese colleges.

  • Sep 28, 2020
  • Higher Education
  • Hai Min Dai + 3 more

To respond to an increasing emphasis placed on research capability and productivity, universities in China are reforming their policies regarding faculty’s performance evaluation and promotion criteria. Faculties are motivated to invest in research, and those without a PhD degree are strongly encouraged to enroll in doctoral programs. From the perspective of the theory of planned behavior, we conducted a qualitative study to explore the factors underpinning the intention to pursue a PhD degree among female teachers in a Chinese university. From data collected via semi-structured interviews, we found that participants were evaluating their pursuit of a doctoral degree in the clashes between the entrenched social-cultural beliefs of women’s role and the institutional expectation of a fully devoted scholar. Accordingly, theoretical and practical implications of our findings are discussed.

Quality of online intellectual capital disclosure by Chinese mainland universities: the case of C9
  • Jul 2, 2025
  • Journal of Intellectual Capital
  • Sifan Gao + 4 more

Purpose This paper aims to comprehensively evaluate the quality of online intellectual capital disclosure in mainland China’s C9 universities from multiple perspectives. Design/methodology/approach This study adopts a multiple case study approach to analyze the content of intellectual capital disclosure on the official websites of the representative C9 universities in mainland China. Based on Chinese university information disclosure policies and existing literature, an assessment framework for intellectual capital disclosure in Chinese mainland universities was constructed as an instrument for content analysis. Findings The online intellectual capital disclosure of C9 universities demonstrates high accessibility, diversity of modes and comparability. Compared to structural capital and relational capital, human capital has the highest disclosure quality. However, issues remain with the online intellectual capital disclosure in C9 universities, such as dispersed disclosure locations, insufficient critical disclosures, low quality of voluntary disclosures, and significant disparities of disclosures between universities. Practical implications The findings can help continuously improve the intellectual capital disclosure in universities, better meet the information needs of various stakeholders, and promote the long-term development of universities. Originality/value This paper not only exploratively constructs an assessment framework for intellectual capital disclosure suitable for Chinese mainland universities, but also systematically evaluates the quality of online intellectual capital disclosures by the most prestigious universities in China (the C9 league) for the first time. This study fills the gap in the literature on evaluating intellectual capital disclosure in mainland China and offers new perspectives and references for universities in developing countries.
