Abstract
The paper outlines the application of two elementary statistical methods to low cost road soil and materials investigations. A brief account of statistical method, t-distribution and cumulative sums technique is given. The two statistical methods are described for use in different circumstances. It is suggested that these methods would speed up low cost road site investigation work. An example of each method of application is included which shows both their advantages and limitations. /Author/TRRL/
