Abstract

The article deals with the evolution and interaction of the state and society in Pakistan over the 75-year history (1947-2022). The author identifies several major stages that differ in the relationship between the state and society (politically organized as well as mass, informal). The article succinctly characterizes the features of each of the revealed stages and episodes (fragments) into which they are divided. Although the state is undergoing a certain evolution, this does not essentially change its character. The state is characterized by growing corruption and low efficiency from the economic and social points of view. At the same time, Pakistan's dependence on external sources of financial and technical assistance has been steadily increasing. The evolution of society is even slower, and it does not affect traditional lack of personal liberty, which is a characteristic feature of Oriental societies, as well as humility of the status of women and members of ethnic and religious minorities. The article emphasizes that the Pakistani state due to internal and external reasons has undergone significant militarization, while the society got strongly Islamized. These processes are the cause of serious problems that corrode the socio-political organism and question the future fate of the country.
