Abstract

Air Liquide has developed a solution specifically tailored for CO2 capture from H2 production plant which is called CRYOCAP™ H2. This technology uses cryogenic purification to separate the CO2 from the PSA offgas. Thanks to the use of membrane, H2 recovery from syngas is also increased. The technology has been demonstrated at industrial scale with the start up of the first CRYOCAP™ H2 plant at Port Jérôme, France in 2015. Several key features were demonstrated:•The integration of the CRYOCAP™ H2 unit within the existing H2 production plant•The increase of H2 production flow•The compression of fluctuating PSA offgas flow with a centrifugal compressor•The operation of the cold box near the triple point•The production of liquid food grade CO2Following the start-up of Port-Jérôme plant, CRYOCAP™ H2 technology combines a sufficient level of maturity and competitive CO2 production cost making it an attractive option for large CO2 capture plants.
