Desde el año 1989 la American Diabetes Association (ADA) publica de manera anual sus Standards of Medical Care in Diabetes, pudiendo así ofrecer al equipo asistencial las recomendaciones más actuales basadas en la evidencia para diagnosticar y tratar personas con alguna de las múltiples formas de diabetes mellitus (DM) existentes. Este año, y con motivo de ampliar la importancia del lenguaje en diabetes (Language matters) el Comité Editorial de la ADA ha decidido cambiar el habitual nombre del documento de Standards of Medical Care in Diabetes por Standards of Care in Diabetes (SCD)1, reiterando así la importancia del cuidado de la DM por parte de sanitarios, investigadores, legisladores y otras personas implicadas en los componentes de la atención al paciente. En el presente editorial se hará referencia solo a algunas de las novedades más interesantes y que abarcan desde el manejo clínico y medidas no farmacológicas hasta novedades terapéuticas e implicaciones clínicas.

The American Diabetes Association (ADA) updates its Standards of Medical Care (SOMC) in Diabetes annually. These ADA standards make up a comprehensive document that serves as an excellent resource for clinical care. The current article comes from the ADA's Primary Care Advisory Group. This article highlights key aspects of the SOMC that are relevant to the day-to-day practice of osteopathic primary care physicians.
