Abstract

In brief: The purpose of this study was to develop and determine the reliability of normative data for women by weight classification for one-repetition maximum (1-RM) for five weight-training exercises. Subjects were 221 female students enrolled in beginning coeducational classes for ten weeks. Standard scores were computed for seven body-weight classifications for bench press, half squat, dead lift, bent-arm pullover, and military press. The bootstrap procedure, which is a new computer-intensive technique, was used to estimate standard errors of the norms. This procedure aids in interpreting the stability of each standard score.
