Abstract

The tissue components of the secretory system of Hemigrapsis nudus and Petrolisthes cinctipes are briefly described and the application of Gomori's aldehyd fuchsin technique is discussed. The processing involves mordanting, tissue oxidation and bleaching, proir to the staining of the neurosecretory substances with paraldehyde fuchsin, the nuclei with haematoxylin and the cytoplasma with light green and orange G. The staining effects of this technique are examined in relation to the results of other dyes. For gross studies, bulk staining in life methylene blue and staining of fixed material by Ehrlich's haematoxylin seem to be the most appropriate.
