Abstract

An alternate m e t h o d of flame stabil ization is proposed in an effort to obviate the pressure drop associated wi th bluff body flameholders. The proposed method consists of us ing recesses in the walls of the test chamber. It is shown that use of such recesses results in a wider range of stabil ization l imits and higher blowout velocities as c o m pared to an arbitrary V-gutter flameholder, while indicating a pronounced decrease in the associated pressure drop.
