Abstract

AbstractThe stability of a rectangular plate, when its two opposite edges are hinged, and the third edge is under sliding contact conditions, are considered; for the fourth edge, two cases are studied: sliding contact conditions and “restricted” sliding contact conditions. In the first case, the buckling load is the same as the critical load for cylindrical buckling, calculated by means of Kirchhoff’s theory. In the second case, the buckling load may be refined twice or more, with respect to the Kirchhoff’s theory. The refinement term depends on geometry of the plate.Keywordsplate bendingstabilitybucklingtransverse shear deformations
