Abstract

In this study, the newly developed lightweight light-buoys, combined with 7 nautical mile self-contained power lantern, are firstly introduced. To reduce the total weight, EPP(Expanded polypropylene) and aluminum are applied for the buoyant body and tower structure, respectively. The new self-contained light system, of which weight is 10% of conventional power-separated light system, is adopting solar cells, high performance batteries, LED light emitters and so on. Hydrostatic calculations and motion analysis of the buoy under various environmental conditions are carried out to find the optimum draft and mass of the stabilizing weight, and to estimate the motion of the buoy since there are some requirements for the stability and motion performances.
