Abstract

AbstractThe present work is devoted to the stability of liquid filled horizontal tanks. The possibility of substitution of a cylindrical tank with a barrelled one is investigated. A family of barrelled shells was created and subjected to the numerical analysis. The model of the shell was simply supported at both ends and subjected to the hydrostatic pressure. The values of the critical load and the buckling shapes were determined. The advantages of barrelled shells and their behaviour under hydrostatic load are described.
