Abstract

The implementation issues associated with the control algorithm for a STATCOM in a series compensated wind generation system for mitigating SSR and damping power system oscillations. In order to damp out system oscillation and sub synchronous resonance we are providing STATCOM controller. The modeled SSR is adopted with integrating aggregated doubly fed induction generator-based wind turbine to perform the studies. The potential occurrence and mitigation of the SSR caused by induction generator effects as well as torsional interactions in a series compensated wind generation system are investigated. The auxiliary sub synchronous resonance mitigation in a power system is provided normally by an FACTS device. The device here used for mitigation of Sub synchronous resonance is STATCOM. The performances of the controllers are tested in steady-state operation and also in dynamic conditions during oscillation. Simulation results are presented to demonstrate the capability of the controllers for mitigating the SSR, damping the power system oscillation, and enhancing the transient stability margin in response to the sub synchronous resonance oscillation.
