Abstract

Recently, Yamamotoet al. (J. Opt. Soc. Am. B,4, 1645 (1987) have employed the Heisenberg picture to investigate number-phase squeezing generated by a quartic Hamiltonian:H=χa+2a2. Here, to check alternative procedures, we employ the normal ordering technique to solve the Schrodinger equation for the same system. It is found that the application of this (analytical) approach, including its standard «ansatz», only works when making an approximation that leads to quadrature squeezing, instead of the number-phase squeezing as (numerically) found by Yamamotoet al.
