Abstract

A simple route for the synthesis of a new square-planar nickel(II) complex bearing 2-((3-methylthiophen-2-yl)methylene)-N-phenylhydrazinecarbothioamide ligand has been described. The composition of the complex has been established by elemental analysis, FT-IR, NMR, and single crystal X-ray crystallographic technique. The complex acts as an active homogeneous catalyst for the Sonogashira reaction of phenylacetylene with electron deficient (activating) and electron rich (deactivating) aryl halides (iodides and bromides) under optimized conditions.
