Abstract
The mechanism of positron trapping at vacancies in semiconductors cannot be the electron-hole pair excitation process if the binding energy at the vacancy is smaller than the band gap, and a phonon mechanism is expected to be slow. However, the positron might rapidly lose the binding energy by energy exchange with the electrons and holes in the positron spur, which is the terminal cluster of electron-type radiation damage of the positron spur.
