Abstract

We describe the splitting and nonsplitting conditions of a Gaussian light pulse. These conditions have not been analyzed for a highly twisted single-mode optical fiber that has two modes with different group velocities. In this paper, the conditions are solved in closed form. From these solutions, it becomes known that the conditions differ much according to the major or minor axes of the output elliptically polarized wave and, further, that there exists an inherent nonsplitting condition for the major axis but not for the minor axis.
