Abstract

Subject choices in the third year of secondary school profoundly affect pupils' studies and careers. Yet many pupils, particularly girls, drop science subjects without full awareness of the consequences. The authors describe a programme set up by the Polytechnic of North London to encourage a range of pupils to continue their studies in science.
