Abstract

There has been a big spike in the usage of wireless devices since the time wireless devices came into existence. This has paved way for a serious problem of spectrum scarcity. The solution to this problem comes in the form of cognitive radio networks where a secondary or an unlicensed user, opportunistically uses the spectrum when the primary or the licensed user is not using it and vacates and moves to another frequency when the primary user appears or when the primary user faces interference above a threshold level. This change from one frequency channel to another by the secondary user is called spectrum handoff. In this paper, we propose a spectrum handoff scheme which makes use of Multiple Attribute Decision Making (MADM) and is further extended to be used with Artificial Neural Networks (ANN).
