Abstract
Absorption and emission spectra, fluorescence quantum yields and lifetimes were studied for anisole in binary ethanol-water mixtures. The spectroscopic and photophysical properties show an exceptional behaviour in the aqueous solution. In water a strong nonradiative process, originating from the fluorescent state decreases the emission yield and lifetime. The results are discussed in terms of short range interactions between the solute and solvent.
