Abstract

1. Plasma from 26 animal species has been examined for pseudocholinesterase activity, measured against butyrylcholine, and the electrophoretic mobility of an acylhydrolase. 2. There is similarity in activity between the species in each Order but considerable differences between some Orders. 3. Plasma pseudocholinesterase activity is unlikely to provide other than a very approximate guide to the susceptibility of species to paralysis by succinylcholine.
