Abstract

On the basis of performed morpho-genetic studies it was shown that the species group Cottus poecilopus includes no less than six valid species: C. poecilopus, C. altaicus, C. szanaga, C. kuznetzovi, C. volki, and C. koreanus. Diagnostic morphological characters are established, and redescriptions of three species—C. szanaga, C. altaicus, and C. kuznetzovi—are provided; for the two last species, neotypes are designated. Keys to all six species of the group have been elaborated and are provided.
