Abstract

A spatio-temporal method for target identification of high-range resolution radar is proposed. The hidden Markov model (HMM) technique is used as the classification algorithm, making classification decisions based on a spatio-temporal sequence of radar range profiles. The effectiveness of the method is investigated in identification experiments using extensive data sets of real C-band inverse synthetic aperture radar (ISAR) range profiles of three different aircrafts. Identification accuracy of 93.01% is obtained for sequences of range profiles generated over a large aspect angle.
