Abstract

Over the past few years, Web3D technology has dominated in the integration of 3D scenes in HTML5 browsers. This inclusion of graphics into web browsers produced new possibilities for web applications that integrate hi-end visualization with the efficient information management that internet performs. However, even though that such Web3D environments come with solid foundations in geometric and visual representations, they still lack indexing mechanisms that will reveal additional information from graphics. This paper aims to contribute in this direction, applying a 3D R-tree approach that organizes and implements spatial indexing inside an X3DOM scene, while at the same time, it could be also used to perform spatial queries with optimized times between its 3D objects.
