Abstract
The spatial energy distribution of the thermal neutrons in a heterogeneous reactor has been determined in the heavy gas model approximation. It is assumed that the moderator is non-absorbing and that the fuel slugs do not moderate the neutrons. To describe the energy dependence of the solution it turns out that as well as the ordinary Laguerre polynomials the functions witociated with them are also very convenient. Possible ways of improving the accuracy of the results are discussed.
