Abstract
AbstractIn this study, soybean oil‐based polyurethane–(poly)acrylonitrile (PU–PAN) interpenetrating polymer networks (IPN) were synthesized by the reaction of soybean oil‐based polyol, isophorone diisocyanate, and acrylonitrile. The formation of IPN were confirmed by the FTIR and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) studies. The mechanical properties such as tensile strength, Young's modulus, hardness, and abrasion resistance were found to be increased with the increase of PU content in the IPN. IPN showed higher thermal stability and lesser burning rate than PU. Surface morphology was observed by SEM and AFM studies. The IPN showed higher hydrophobic nature than PU, studied by contact angle measurement.
