Abstract

Experimental data are reported on the rate of ejection of matter from the zone of interaction with quasistationary laser pulses in the range of radiation flux densities close to the damage threshold. Qualitative interpretation of the formation of droplet fraction in the damage products is put forward. This interpretation is based on the idea of explosive motion resulting from overheating of the molten zone.
