Abstract

Some physical properties of oxynitride glasses based on te system Na 2OCaOSiO 2 were investigated. For all glasses the Na:Ca: Si cation ratios were kept constant with varying nitrogen contents. Electrical conductivity increased only slightly, but viscosity, density, Young's modulus and refractive index showed a strong increase with increasing nitrogen contents up to 7 mol%. These results prove the assumptions about a structural model where O 2− ions are substituted by N 3− ions to form a more tightly linked glass network.
