Abstract

Two-dimensional convolution is a fundamental, computationally-intensive operation used in image processing, and an operation particularly difficult to implement on systolic arrays. We present two new systolic solutions, both developed with the assistance of a systolic array design tool called SAGE. One of the solutions is developed first as a 3D systolic array and is then projected onto the 2D plane to produce a planar array. The design methodology employed is also discussed.
