Abstract

Many departments are attempting to modify the elementary physics course to include applications of physics in areas of interest to the students. This paper gives summaries of laboratory experiments with applications in the biological sciences. The topics summarized are the mechanics of the human arm, fluid flow in tubes, physics of hearing, and the electrocardiograph. Also, mention is made of other suitable experiments: nerve impulse conduction and corrective lenses for eye defects.
