Abstract
The process whereby vestiges of religion are gradually overcome in our society is of fundamental historical and philosophical significance. Religion, which for many thousands of years was an inseparable element of social consciousness and ideology, has now become a historical anachronism not for a narrow group of atheists, but for the social system as a whole. The study of the many-faceted process whereby the Soviet people have abandoned religion in all its forms and manifestations, and the study of the modifications that the religious ideology is undergoing under the new social conditions, are of considerable value from both practical and scientific viewpoints.
