Abstract

Capacitance data for mercury, bismuth, gold and lead electrodes in contact with solutions of inactive electrolytes in protic and aprotic solvents were analyzed to deduce the orientation of solvent molecules when the electrode is unchanged. The analysis was based on estimation of the charges at which the solvent contribution to the interfacial capacity has extrema, following the method presented in part I. Classifications for the orientation of various solvents on the same electrode were obtained and indications for the probable orientation are given. Some general trends are discussed.
