Abstract

A new method for solving self-consistent electronic structure equations which offers orders of magnitude reductions in computation time and storage space with no obvious loss of accuracy is described and applied to the restricted Hartree-Fock equations for the neon atom. Application to polyatomic molecules is straightforward both conceptually and numerically.
