Abstract

AbstractWe have investigated the optical property of single‐phase Mn11Si19 bulk crystals grown by the temperature gradient solution growth (TGSG) method using Ga solvent. The optical absorption spectrum near the fundamental absorption edge was evaluated by transmission and reflectance measurements between 5 K and 300 K. Optical constants of refractive index n and extinction coefficient k were determined from normal reflectance spectrum by Kramers‐Kronig analysis. The value of n was 5‐6 near the band edge energy. From the relation of the optical absorption spectra to photon energy, we found that Mn11Si19 has indirect band gap structure with the absorption edge energy of approximately 0.64 eV at 5 K.
