Abstract

The ideal gas phenomenology is applied to evaluate the dynamical correlation functions due to solitons in an easy-plane ferromagnetic chain in an external symmetry-breaking field. The importance of the finite out-of-plane fluctuations, which are neglected in the sine-Gordon approximation, is pointed out. The relevance of these fluctuations is discussed in connection with a recent polarised neutron scattering experiment on CsNiF3 by Kakurai et al. (1984).
