Abstract
This book contains the papers presented at a symposium sponsored by the American Chemical Society. The authors of the 21 chapters discuss solid waste and residue generation, disposition and conversion technologies. The first 2 chapters provide information regarding feedstocks and the economic advantages of producing fuels from wastes in this manner. The next 2 sections discuss the vertical flow packed-bed and stirred-bed reactor processes. The 4th section deals with horizontal or inclined-flow reactors, emphasizing the Tosco-II Process and steam gasification. The last section deals with variety of related subjects including the Syngas Process, EPA's R and D programs in these areas, and the PERC Process for biomass liquefaction. Separate abstracts have been prepared of individual papers for inclusion in the Energy Data Base. (DMC)
