Abstract

Metathetic reactions of (R 3P) 2PtH(CH 3CN) + and PW 12O 40 3− yield [(R 3P) 2PtH(CH 3CN)] 3PW 12O 40(R = Ph,Et). Thermal desolvation of solid [(Ph 3P) 2PtH(CH 3CN)] 3PW 12O 40 yields [(Ph 3P) 2PtH] 3PW 12O 40 which is thought to contain interstitial (Ph 3P) 2PtH + ions. Quantitative loss of acetonitrile from [(Et 3P) 2PtH(CH 3CN)] 3 PW 12O 40 at 180°C produces a material containing (Et 3P) 2PtH + and (Et 3P) 3Pt 2-(μ-PEt 2)(μ-H)Et +. Although the crystals lack permanent channels, exposure to CH 3 13CN vapor leads to extensive isotopic exchange. This is proposed to result from chemical microporosity of the solid.
