Abstract

This entry on sodomy laws in comparative perspective provides a comparative overview of the current state of sodomy laws cross‐nationally and then delves into the factors that are likely to make a state more or less likely to have such a law. It highlights the massive positive changes that have taken place while illustrating that there are many countries where consensual same‐sex relations can result in imprisonment or death. It then discusses how and why current religious states and states with the Common Law are more likely to have laws that criminalize homosexuality.
