Abstract

Objective To observe the clinical effect of sodium valproate combined with lamotrigine for children with different types of epilepsy. Methods 127 epileptic children treated at our hospital were selected and were divided into a PS (partial seizure ) group (52 cases), an SGS (secondary generalized seizure) group (37 cases), a GS group (generalized seizure)(28 cases), and an LGS (Lennox Gastaut syndrome ) group (10 cases) according epileptic types. All the patients were treated with sodium valproate and lamotrigine. The clinical effect of each group was observed. Results The complete control rate of the SGS group (35.14%) was significantly higher than those of the other groups (P<0.05). The complete control rate of the LGS group (0.00%) was lowest. The total effective rate of the SGS group (64.86%) was significantly higher than those of the other groups (P<0.05). The total effective rate of the LGS group (30.00%) was lowest. After treatment, the attack frequency decreased in all groups, with statistical differences (P<0.05). Conclusions Sodium valproate combined with lamotrigine has a distinguishable effect in children with different types of epilepsy, can greatly reduce the attack frequency of epilepsy. It has the highest effect in the SGS group. Key words: Epilepsy; Children; Sodium valproate; Lamotrigine; Curative effect
